My friend Teddy put me up at his friend Pierro’s flat. \u00a0I stayed here for the final two weeks of summer and enjoyed the last of the continental heat. \u00a0Four meter tall ceilings are quite common in Budapest apartments and encourage good natural airflow. \u00a0‘Lichthof’ (light well) usually located adjacent to bathrooms and kitchens create a stack effect drawing air through from the apartment windows, allowing them to be naturally cross ventilated during the heat of summer. \u00a0The tall windows give excellent natural light and the polished parquet floors reflect the light deep into the floorplan. \u00a0These flats are typically 100-150 years old and this one had a central heating system fitted with radiators – sort of unusual. \u00a0This being the spare room the arrangement was somewhat spartan (although admittedly I have omitted a desk in the drawing).<\/p>\n\n\n
